Heat Safety Charter for Workers in Apartments

Bengaluru’s summers are no longer what they used to be. Over the past few years, the city has been experiencing longer and more intense periods of heat, with temperatures steadily rising across seasons. In April 2026, Bengaluru recorded sustained above-normal temperatures reaching up to 36.8°C, around 2 to 3 degrees above seasonal averages, following an already intense March where temperatures remained between 33°C and 35.6°C. Observations this summer show that intense heat now begins as early as 8:30 AM and continues through much of the day, increasing heat exposure across the city.

Domestic workers are among those significantly affected by these rising temperatures, often travelling and working across multiple homes during peak heat hours with limited access to basic amenities. As heat conditions intensify, ensuring basic heat safety measures inside apartment complexes is becoming increasingly important. These measures can also support other workers who regularly visit and work at apartment complexes during the day, such as security guards, housekeeping staff, gardeners, delivery workers, and drivers.

In this context, the Bangalore Apartment Federation (BAF) and HeatWatch Foundation have come together to develop the Heat Safety Charter for Apartment Workers, with support from the Bangalore Sustainability Forum (BSF).
